Time Sheet

Time is money and keeping track of your employees work hours is vital to lowering costs and increasing revenue. In an industrial environment, a time sheet is calculated from employees using a time card that is "punched" in and out at the beginning and at the end of a workday. In the modern office environment a web-based timesheet is commonly used. This is seen as less intrusive than the factory style of time management. But both are prone to human error.

This human error can be both accidental and intentional. With the web-based version of a time sheet it is possible for an employee to forget to "clock-in" or intentionally forget to "clock-out". Although this is mostly uncommon and most employees are honest, it is possible, and employers need to physically monitor employees as well to make sure that the figures correlate with any absence of personnel.

With regard to project management, a time sheet can be an indication of the amount of effort it takes for a task to reach its conclusion. This helps a company calculate the strengths and weaknesses of a team and also plan for a future project, so that deadlines can be accurately announced and project costs can be calculated.
